A little backtracking.....

The holidays were such a blur around here I never told our Griswald trip to Nashville....or posted our Santa/Christmas pictures. I guess I'll start with one thing at a time......WE had QUITE a trip. I've never been a fan of car trips. In fact, I'm not one for them at all. I prefer to mosey onto a plane and arrive at my destination quick! This experience did NOT help change my opinion about being in the car. Here were the obstacles to our trip:

Keep in mind....this just started out as a 3 hour tour.....
-Snow, snow, and more snow (this started AFTER we left Memphis)

-an accident occured on I-40 near Franklin around 3:30, 4 o'clock. We left Memphis about this same time. When we got near there (remember the snow??) around 6 the traffic was at a standstill. We actually put the car in park...... FOR 6 HOURS!!!!!! Nightmare! We got to our hotel at 2 am. That is 9 hours on the road. I was PANICKED!! I was feeling trapped, hungry, in need of a potty break. Ugh....I shudder to think about that again. Fortunately, I had plenty of food/milk for Libby and she slept for all but the last hour.

-Opryland "couldn't find" the crib that 1. I had CALLED to reserve with our room, 2. Scott had called to have set up about 30 minutes earlier and we were assured would be ready!
-McDonalds was CASH ONLY (Scott went to get a late night dinner while Libby and I waited for a crib, or a suitable 'alternative'). Since we were Debit and Credit card users, he SLID back to the hotel and I ordered a $35 room service pizza. At about 4??? we finally fell asleep!!

they found a baby jail for Tuttie!

-AFTER 2 hours of sleep---Baby girl was ready for her day! ha!

-Our tickets to ICE were "lost". I had the confirmation on my email, but the lady said we should've been given everything (including paper tickets) at check-in. Uh....right. Her co-worker took pity on us, and let us "go on in" which is good, because I probably would've just left at this point. The little black cloud over our head would have followed us of course. What luck?!

-We saw very little of ICE because we flew right through it. Not ideal for a baby I don't suppose. I had her tucked "kangaroo style" in my Jolly Green Giant Sized Jacket, but she just wasn't having it. I guess if I had wet pants in a 9 degree room....I might whine and fuss a tiny bit too. She didn't cry though....smart girl. No sense in freezing your lashes to your cheeks.

-No photo vouchers! ha! I'm glad I got them after all though...this was a memorable trip! ha ha....(it's better to laugh than to cry right?) I think at this point, I just went to the concierge for principle. If it could go wrong--it did. For instance, our hotel room smelled like smoke (insert me gagging and choking here) when the shower was running. How much sense does that make??!! NONE! ha!

-Topping it all off, Scott felt he needed a little TLC and took a trip to the emergency room. After cruising through ICE, his heart was racing, and skipping a few beats (I've been known to make a few hearts flutter---but apparently this was off the charts!). I checked his pulse in our room, and it seemed jumpy to me, but I don't examine patients "hands-on" everyday. Scott's Dad, was MUCH better at making this call! It was great he was there. He said it seemed irregular, and he would know! They hopped in the car and off they went.

This left the only the girls for dinner. We waited til the boys got back to open gifts. (Scott got a clean bill of health for the night, a prescription to see his MD when we returned for the cause of his arrythmia, and the REAL bill....we got that in the mail as a reminder of our trip just this past week! ) Libby did really well to have skipped a nap and stayed up past her bedtime. She's so routine, and likes to be in her familiar places---so I was proud of her. We didn't have any MAJOR mishaps for the rest of the night (that I remember....if so, I've blocked them out!)

On the way home, it was pretty un-eventful (ahhhh....what a welcome sigh of relief.)

We were 2 minutes from our house and Scott almost HITS a dog in the street. It's a shih-tzu with a collar, and leash?? No tag. Oh....and it had a corduroy coat on too. Who puts their dog in clothes but no tag??? sheesh. We got it in the car ("woof woof" Libby says) and drove around to see if someone was frantically looking for an animal. Our vet is just a minute further down the street so we just went there. I'm pretty sure they were confused to see me walk in with this stranger and not one of my white fuzzy guys. (Sadly, we are at VIP/frequent shopper/Gold member.....etc. at the vet. When your dog has cancer/allergies/uti issues OR you have 2 almost near death incidences, you start to pay their bills for them. If both of those apply....you know why my bank account looks the way it does. In fact, I'm pretty sure they may have rolled out a red carpet when the door opened??) I digress..... The dog had no microchip (it's 2011?? come on! I bet Bob Barker would've updated to "have your pet microchipped and neutered" just to stay with the times) but he did have a rabies tag. The receptionist and I were able to contact his vet, and then his owner. Add, dog hero to the Baird family list. Yes, Prince the well dressed,(and very dapper) dog is safely at home.

I know he was glad to be home, and so were we.
